Our story
As many food and beverage establishments move towards automation and ordering kiosks and self-pour beverage walls, Old Man Rivers Table & Tavern takes a people-focused approach where the staff prides themselves on developing relationships with customers. We aim to create a comfortable environment where people do not feel invisible. To facilitate socializing, we ask that our customers unplug, slow down, and perhaps enjoy an old fashion, the Old Man Rivers way.
Old Man Rivers Table & Tavern is a place where people come to celebrate life’s special occasions, no matter if they are happy or hard moments (anniversaries, birthdays, Dad and daughter date night or Mom and son date night, or even after funerals). At our table, we want people to connect and talk to each other and leave their devices in their cars or at home.
Old Man Rivers Table & Tavern selects local sustainably resourced products from our beer, whiskey, meats, cheese, and in-season vegetables. We are invested in our local community. We support small local businesses and entrepreneurs where possible. To minimize food transport and reduce our Carbon footprint, we use eggs and fresh vegetables grown on our family farm, Tilleigh Sue Farms (Sequatchie county) and other local farms. We compost, recycle, use bio-based compostable to-go containers, and minimize our use of glass (since it is not recycled in Chattanooga) and single-use plastics. Our team takes pride in their work and knowledge of ingredients and is happy to answer any questions.
WHo is the Old Man?
Pleased to introduce you to Alex Rivers’ Dad, Mark Rivers, aka THE Old Man! Helping his son Rivers with the construction and renovation of the building from the beginning, he now states renovating our restaurant as one of the best experiences he’s lived. Always striving for quality, he went above and beyond to make our restaurant exceptional, even learning new skills along the way. From painting the walls, designing the bar, installing new bathrooms, building shelves, and much more, he has worked on every aspect of renovating the building. He had lots of fun sharing his knowledge with his son and working alongside him. He is extremely proud of Rivers for starting a business and pleased to have an important role in the foundation of our company. When you visit us, you will feel the love and care that Old Man created for his family and the community of Chattanooga.
